Wyomming weekend!

Happy Sunday, everyone! Hope you’re all recovering from a fun weekend. I sure am. Here’s a little recap of mine!

Friday afternoon, I took off with 6 of my good friends for Cheyenne, WY for our 5th annual trip to Cheyenne Frontier Days. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? It is. Basically, it’s a giant rodeo that lasts about 10 days, with big name performers every night. So if you’re from Iowa, you’re probably thinking this sounds a lot like the Iowa State Fair. But it’s so much more.

We’ve really experienced it all here. We’ve gone in small groups of 3, up to 7, and it’s a blast either way! Here are some pictures from past years….

5613_238647990607_5287490_n 5613_238648015607_3729509_n 5613_238648050607_2340180_n 5613_238648245607_951638_n5613_238648295607_862250_n 198627_10150730302020608_8095393_n 226112_10150730303675608_5733386_n 254733_10150730290865608_5700368_n 284328_10150730289205608_1587898_n 284758_10150730305185608_1963026_n

You also may remember that this is where I bumped into my now husband for the first time in about 3 years. It went a little something like this.

Me- ‘What are you doing here, are we in Iowa?’ (there was beer involved)

Aaron- ‘No, I live in Fort Collins now. It’s Amber, right?’

Me- ‘Nice try, it’s Amanda. And it’s ok-I have no idea what your name is. Let’s send a picture to Adam and Channing!’

The rest is history. I like to revisit this fateful spot outside the porta-potty beer tent whenever we return.

This year, we had a super fun group of girls.

We hitched a ride down to the show from our ‘camping spot’ in a nice woman named Theresa’s pickup truck.

IMG_0013 IMG_0009 IMG_0007

Then, we made our way to the show! Jake Owen and Jason Aldeen. Love them both. Not to mention, we saw Jason Aldeen in his tour bus on the way to Cheyenne from Denver! He was not as entertained by us as we were by him, but we were excited, nonetheless.

IMG_0017 IMG_0022 IMG_0020

Elyse was asked to ‘put her beer in a cup here’…so she did!

At the end of the night we hopped in the limo Liz and I had arranged to pick us up. We are very well rounded right? Hitch hiking on the way there, limo cruising on the way back. We like to experience it all 🙂

I’m about 100% sure this limo driver is still cleaning out the back of his limo today. It had rained and hailed, and our boots looked like this:

We had a great time, and loved seeing Elyse and Liz’s aunt and uncle, Marty and Kathy.

IMG_0046 IMG_0043

That was definitely the highlight of my weekend! Here are a couple more highlights:

Aaron’s old neighbor, and kindergarten teacher sent us some homemade jams…YUM!

And today, we saw The Conjuring. If you go, wear a heart monitor in case you have minor heart failure. And a diaper…just in case 🙂 haha! I LOVE scary movies…but I’ll let you know how I feel about our decision to go about 2 am. We did go to the theater by my studio with newly installed recliners for EVERY seat. We are never!!! going to another theater again!

So comfy.

Hope you all had a great weekend! See ya back tomorrow!

Weekend recap!

Hey everyone! It’s Monday. Let’s just get past that part. I am excited because my Aunt and Uncle are in town from Iowa! We are having dinner with them tonight after work. Yes work. I know, it’s Monday and I said I’d never work a Monday again. Anyways, they are headed up to The Westin in Beaver Creek where we got married to spend some more time there because my aunt loved it so much, an my uncle wasn’t able to make it. We are jealous that we can’t tag along…but sure hope they have a good time!

Speaking of work…today is Aaron’s last day at his job! We are celebrating with a shared day off tomorrow! So excited for him. He flip flopped a bit about leaving his current job, but I really think he made the right decision…and he does too!

Our weekend was a quick one! You’ll soon notice that NO pictures will posted in this post. You see, early Saturday morning, my phone took a little swim. A fully submerged in water swim. Yikes. Yesterday, it gave me an hour of false hope by turning on and working perfectly. Then, this morning when my alarm failed to go off, I knew it was a goner again.

Saturday I did hair for a wedding in Vail. It was an absolutely gorgeous day up there, they the venue was amazing. Everyone got ready at The Sebastian Hotel (where their reception later took place.)

They got married on a picturesque golf course, in fact the one where we took some photos for my friend Amanda’s recent wedding.

The bride and her bridesmaids all looked beautiful! The bride, Erin, chose my new favorite trend…one style for the ceremony, and another for the reception! You may have seen this at my cousin Kala’s wedding, and Amanda’s as well.

One more….I had to…..

Pics of Erin and her hair change to come! (Please, don’t rub in the broken phone part).

Speaking of favorite hair trends…..I am happy to announce that I truly believe for the first time ever…..EVERY hair length is in style. Typically, if you asked me, I would say ‘stick to dramatic..either SHORT or LONG, no in between’. But I can really say, I am digging ‘in between’ lengths right now. I think it’s because they are finally being done right. No more of this…

…and way more of this. Thank God.

Yes, please! Love it, wanna see more of it!

However, if you ARE craving some drama, I am still a sucker for these super short, and uber long styles right now. Just ask a few of my friends who I am swaying into a few of them. Hair envy. The blondies and shorties that I can’t quite pull off. My friends are some of my favorite models.

Whoa. Major short hair envy. Did you know that Miley was the first woman to pose on the cover of Maxim with short hair? She also won sexiest cover woman that year. Coincidence? I think not. That’s what I love about short hair. The confidence of it.

And if you possess that will power to let it grow…and grow….here are some sexy beachy styles to strive for!

Hope this hair makes you as excited as it makes me! Have a great week everyone!

(Practically) Christmas, and (practically) pizza!

Hello again, readers! So glad you keep coming back. I think. Are you there? Will I ever get used to writing to people blindly in hopes that they are reading? Either way, I’m having fun!

Today, something amazing happened. It started with an 11 hour work day, and ended with me walking through the door to 2 shiny, wrapped, covered in bows, Christmas presents! OK, not really, but if you get Birchbox, you know this feeling! They are pink, but just as wonderful as most Christmas presents, if not better!

IMG_6283 - Copy

If you don’t already know what Birchbox is, it is a subscription in which you pay just $10 a month, and receive one of these glorious boxes each month filled with 4-6 sample sizes of hair care, skin care, nail care, and body products. Yes, it is as amazing as it sounds. And we are talking good sized samples, not like the paper ones you find in magazines. Why do I have 2 boxes you ask? One was gifted to me by my dear friend, Kelsey when she was visiting as a late 30th birthday gift! So now I get 2 for the next 6 months! You are able to make a profile stating things you like/dislike, so I made a second profile for my second box, and get a whole other set of goodies. If you are NOT a Birchbox subscriber, I won’t be offended if you stop reading now, and run to get signed up ASAP. I mean, Christmas (practically) every month? Yes.

Of course I have to try things out the SECOND I open it.

How does that lip color look on me?

The secret? To NOT buy a full size of every item in the box online within 24 hours of trying them all. Good luck.  🙂 You can also gift a subscription for 3 or 6 months, or a year! What a great idea. Here’s what I got this ‘Christmas’:

I finally snapped out of my product sampling, and got to makin’ some dinner. One of Aaron and I’s favorite things to do it make homemade pizzas. I think it’s because we have such different taste in toppings, and food styles, and this way we can each create our own. Unfortunately, I can’t eat pizza every night. Trust me, I’ve tried. So tonight, as promised…..a healthier idea to put your own spin on your dinner! Chicken roll ups.

Start with you thawed chicken breasts laid out on wax paper, and a meat pounder. I think that’s the technical name, right? Don’t forget to preheat that oven to 375.

Now pound em out real good, but not too thin. You don’t want to make any holes in them.

Now, top with whatever you’d like! Just get creative. Aaron’s 3 picks were: Canadian bacon and cheese, pepperoni and cheese, and pesto and parmesan. Yum! My picks were: pesto, and one with goat cheese and spinach. Delish.

IMG_6292 IMG_6293

Now, just roll these chicken delights up, and secure with a toothpick.

IMG_6293 IMG_6294

If you’d like, you could butter them, or season them once they’re rolled up. We left ours plain. Bake for 30 minutes, and enjoy!

See, they’re just like pizza, only healthier! I can’t wait to make them again!

Share with me, what would/did you put in your chicken rollup? Can’t wait to hear. Have a great night! XO!!

Weekend recap!

Happy Monday, friends! I don’t typically work Mondays, but today I worked a nice long day, which was fine, as it poured rain all day. Thank goodness, Colorado needs it so right now.

Our weekend consisted of sushi eating, an engagement party celebration for our friends Nate and Lily, poker playing (for the fellas, wine drinking for the ladies), and of course, walking the pups at the boxer rescue that we volunteer at. Now, these boxers (and a few American Bulldogs) have a shelter at least, but the conditions are sad. Very sad. It’s a good thing we drove my little Jetta there this weekend, or with the way we both left feeling, we would have out all 23 home-seeking dogs in our car.

Here are some pictures of Monroe and Madison, the American Bulldogs that we got to walk with on Saturday. They are brother and sister, and are about 6 years old. They are the gentlest little giants, and luckily, dogs that big get worn out fast. They were up for some shade-layin’ and water-drinkin’ within about 10 minutes.

IMG_6253 IMG_6246 IMG_6267 IMG_6269 IMG_6255 IMG_6259 IMG_6263

So, we’re doing what we can for now, until we can buy a large farm and take in every dog that needs our help. Someday, right? These two pups didn’t even know the word ‘treat’. That almost broke my heart. Sweet, sweet dogs. I hope they find their forever home together, and very soon.

I am currently obsessed with Miley Cirus’ new song. The video, however, I wish I ‘d never seen. And since when does she sing about cocaine? Oh well, have a look., and have a great night.

Look for some super healthy recipes this next few weeks! It’s no secret that I’ve packed on a few lbs, but it’s nothing I can’t get back off quickly if I get right on it 😉

Summer product picks.

Happy Thursday, readers! I have been getting quite a few beauty questions this week, so my friend Amanda suggested I blog about it…done! Good call, Teeder! (now a Champion!)

The first thing I was to address is protecting your tresses. I have to use Amanda as an example, because she gave me the idea for this post. Her hair looks GREAT every day. She curls, or straightens it each day, even if it is just a touch-up. This morning she asked me if it was important to use a thermal protector. YES! I cringed at the fact that I have never told her that before. Protect that beautiful mane, girl! SO, here are a few of my favorite thermal protectors, meaning they protect your hair from the heat of blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons. This should be a product you apply to your damp hair. These two product also double as detanglers, double whammy!

In first place, drumroll please….

Aveda Damage Control

th (5)

Damage Control provides a great foundation for any style on all textures of hair. Spray on towel dried hair to detangle and protect hair from the hazards of combing. heat styling and sun damage. Conditions and lightly holds the hair without adding weight. Oryzanol works as a natural sun filter to help protect hair. Vitamin E helps prevent damage from weathering and environmental factors.

Why it’s my favorite:

  • Protects against up to 460 degrees of heat
  • Detangles, and protects from sun, heat, and free radicals in the air
  • Light aroma
  • Brilliant Line=MOISTURE!!!

2nd place goes to…..

Beauty Protector – Protect and Detangle

th (6)

This paraben- and sulfate-free detangler seals the cuticles (the microscopic scales that compose the outermost layer of each strand of hair). It also smooths and moisturizes, thereby minimizing frizz, while safeguarding color and adding shine. Lastly, it provides protection against UV rays and heat. Happily, it accomplishes all this through a weightless, non-greasy formula that leaves behind an airy floral scent.

Why I love it:

  • Smells like caramel and vanilla, and the aroma lasts all day! Yum!
  • Makes your hair smooth, and shiny, and so easy to comb out
  • Sulfate free=safe for your color AND you body
  • UV protection

So keep on keepin’ on with your hot irons, just protect those locks while you’re at it!

One last bonus product to highlight for gorgeous summer hair is Moroccan Oil. I resisted carrying this product for month, and now, I cannot keep it on the shelves. I am a believer. The best part about Moroccan Oil (aside from the beachy smell), is that it not only gives your hair the appearance of being healthy, but is actually improves the condition of your hair each time you apply it. So rather than making your hair look moisturized, it IS moisturized It is made of pure Argon Oil. It also makes your hair incredibly easy to smooth out, and gives it incredible shine. Apply 2-3 pumps throughout your wet hair, and style however your please. You can also smooth through 1-2 pumps onto your dry hair to smooth down fly aways. Lastly, they have an entire line of shampoo and conditioners, treatment masks, and styling products.

There are 2 options:

Original Moroccan Oil and Moroccan Oil Light. If you have very light colored hair, or fine hair, opt for the LIGHT, otherwise, go for the original. They both have the same awesome aroma, and great moisturizing, and smoothing properties.  Try it out, and be prepared to be hooked, along with the rest of the world currently.

Another topic I get a lot of inquiries about is the liter sale at Beauty Brands. What a steal! Sounds like they sell their liters of shampoo and conditioner for around $12, and offer different products each time they run this sale. Here is a great way to break down these, and see if they’re right for you. The first this to remember, is that Beauty Brands, and Ulta sell only professional brands. Unlike Target, you can be sure that these products are straight from the manufacturers. No matter what, anything you pick up here is better than the ‘best’ shampoo sold in the grocery store. So here’s what to look for. Find the shampoo that looks right for you by the description…it’s easy!

If your hair is color treated, buying a color safe shampoo will buy you the most time for you color.

If your hair feels dry, make sure you find something that claims to have moisturizing properties in the description.

If you need volume, look for something with volumizing properties, stating that it promotes volume.

Also, try not to follow trends too much. If you’re buying sulfate-free shampoo, know why. Are you sensitive to sulfates? Is your hair color treated? If not, there is no need to search the shelves for sulfate free. If your hair and scalp is beyond dry, you are sensitive, or your hair is colored to cover grey, sulfate free is a good option for you. The most important sulfate to avoid is sodium laurel sulfate, sodium laureth sulfite, or anything worded similar. Think SLS.

We all have our favorite brands. What are your favorite Beauty Brand shampoo brands? Share why, and help others find their fit in this liter sale madness!

Have a great night, friends. Please, keep the blog ideas coming. I LOVE hearing from you. It makes it easier for me to provide the things that you love to read, and keeps me writing, knowing that you’re reading!

Hey, folks! Roundin out the long weekend here, and I can’t tell you how glad I was to have it. I hope you all did something fun, or better yet, a weekend FULL of fun things! I love seeing everyone’s pictures from their trips, and BBQs. Nothin says ‘Merica like a B-B-Q!

Us? We stayed in town this weekend! I had Wednesday – Tuesday off, so naturally I wanted to get out of town. Luckily, I had a better surprise…my Aunt Carolyn and Grandma Kaye were coming to visit from Iowa! So here’s a little breakdown of what we did instead.

Thursday, Aaron and I broke out our rusty volleyball skills as Wash Park with some friends. This place is certified loco on Saturdays, let alone on a holiday. Everyone was dressed in their red, white and blue, and playing volleyball, bags, and a new game I learned about on the 4th, slap can. We played a few good games, and just about the time I had gotten my massive overhand underhand serve down, we had to head home and get things ready for a BBQ at our house that evening. It was a ‘Merica theme…and people went all out! We loved it. Hilarious USA, and American Flag shirts, even a jean jacket with a flag on the back! It was awesome. I made turkey burgers, and gluten-free pasta salad (that I am still eating today), and we have some awesome sides and desserts. Some people brought cupcakes. LOTS of cupcakes. One of our friends, Adam brought his over a night early, so naturally I had one for breakfast.
IMG_6131 IMG_6130
But more importantly, people climbing on the roof to get a better view of the fireworks, and some from-the-bottle whiskey drinking. ‘Merica.

We truly have some of the most fun, funniest friends in the world. It was a great night just lounging on the patio with all of them. Here are some pictures of our fancy outfits and such, as well as the recipe for the pasta salad! Yum!

Drop by tomorrow for the story of 4 Italian women cooking and drinking wine in my little ol’ kitchen, and a wonderful story about a woman who wandered into my studio last week.

Pasta Salad

16 oz gluten free penne

1/2 c Italian Dressing

1/2 c Caesar Dressing

1/2 cup parmesan cheese

1/2 green pepper

1/2 red pepper

1/ block cheddar cheese, cubed

Cook pasta according to directions on package. Rinse with cold water. Add dressings, peppers, cheeses, and whatever else you’d like to garnish it with. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. The key ingredient here is the Italian/Caesar combo, it really gives it a pop! Enjoy!
